Journal History

The Civil Engineering Science and Technology Journal (CESTJ) was founded in early 2025 by a forward-thinking group of academics and researchers at the College of Engineering, University of Basrah. The journal was born from a collective vision to create a modern, dynamic, and accessible platform for the global civil engineering community.

The Vision: A New Era for Engineering Research

In an era of rapid technological advancement and pressing global challenges, the founders recognized a critical need for a scholarly journal that was not only academically rigorous but also free from the traditional barriers of publishing. The core mission was clear: to accelerate the dissemination of high-impact research by establishing a premier open-access forum that champions innovation, sustainability, and collaboration.

From its inception, CESTJ was built upon three foundational pillars:

  1. Universal Access: All research should be freely and immediately available to everyone, everywhere, to foster knowledge and drive progress.

  2. Ethical Integrity: A steadfast commitment to the highest ethical standards, guided by the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

  3. Author-Centric Approach: Removing financial barriers by offering a zero-fee publication model and ensuring authors retain copyright to their work.

Key Milestones

  • Early 2025: Foundation and Development The journal was officially established. The foundational editorial board was assembled, bringing together distinguished experts from various civil engineering disciplines. The peer review framework and submission systems were developed to ensure a seamless, efficient, and rigorous process for authors and reviewers.

  • Mid-2025: Inaugural Call for Papers CESTJ issued its first call for papers, inviting researchers from around the world to submit their most innovative work. The response highlighted the global demand for a publication outlet focused on cutting-edge and sustainable engineering solutions.

  • December 2025: The First Issue A landmark moment in our history, the inaugural issue of CESTJ is set to be published. This first volume will showcase a collection of pioneering research that embodies the journal's scope and vision, officially marking our contribution to the scholarly community.

The Future

While our history is just beginning, our ambition is boundless. As we move forward, CESTJ aims to become a leading voice in civil engineering, indexed in major international databases and recognized for its contribution to solving the world's most complex infrastructure and environmental challenges. We remain dedicated to our founding principles, continuing to serve as a vital link between research and practice for generations of engineers to come.
